Introduction — World Mental Health Day 2024
World Mental Health Day 2024: The day is celebrated yearly on October 10, to raise awareness about mental health issues, reduce stigma, and promote the prevention and treatment of mental health conditions. World Mental Health Day is a global initiative organized by the World Federation for Mental Health (WFMH).
The theme for World Mental Health Day 2024 is “It is Time to Prioritize Mental Health in the Workplace”. This theme is a call to action to recognize the need to address mental health issues in the workplace.
The theme highlights the importance of mental health and well-being in the workplace to benefit people, organizations, and communities. Mental health issues, such as anxiety and depression, can impact productivity, attendance, and overall performance.
As per World Federation for Mental Health “The campaign is dedicated to advocating for mental health within the workplace. Our objective is to engage a global audience—including employees, employers, organizations, and stakeholders—in grassroots advocacy to promote mental well-being at work. We aim to highlight the essential role of mental health in professional environments, advocating for workplaces where mental health is prioritized, protected, and promoted.”
The objectives and goals of World Mental Health Day 2024 are:
- Educating the public about mental health issues and challenging negative stereotypes.
- Promoting understanding and acceptance of individuals with mental health conditions.
- Advocating for better access to mental health care by encouraging governments and organizations to invest in mental health services.
- Promoting mental health prevention by supporting initiatives that prevent mental health problems.

World Mental Health Day History:
World Mental Health Day was first organized in 1992 by the World Federation for Mental Health (WFMH). As per the WFMH, World Mental Health Day celebration was started at the initiative of Deputy Secretary General Richard Hunter. The initiative aimed to raise awareness about mental health issues and reduce the stigma associated with them.
Since its inception, World Mental Health Day with global participation from individuals, organizations, and governments has surged the growth. The day serves as a platform to promote mental health awareness, advocate for better access to mental health services, and challenge negative stereotypes surrounding mental health conditions.
