Navratri 2024 8th Day Maha Ashtami and nd Day of Durga Puja
Maha Ashtami, also known as Durga Ashtami or Durgashtami, is the 8th day of the Navratri and 2nd day of Durga Puja. It is the most important day of Durga Puja, a festival dedicated to the worship of Goddess Durga.
Durga Puja on Maha Ashtami begins with Mahasnan and Shodashopachar Puja which is very much similar to Maha Saptami Puja except Prana Pratishtha which is done only once on Maha Saptami.
On Maha Ashtami nine small pots are installed and nine Shakti’s of Durga are invoked in them. All nine forms of Goddess Durga are worshipped during Maha Ashtami Puja.
Young unmarried girls, being treated as Goddess Durga itself, are also wor¬shipped on Maha Ashtami. Worshipping of young girls during Durga Puja is known as Kumari Puja. In many regions Kumari Puja is done during all nine days of Durga Navratri. Kumari Puja on a single day during Durga Puja is pre¬ferred on Maha Ashtami.

Mahashtami also known as Durgashtami, is second day of Durga Puja. Maha Ashtami is one of the most important days of Durga Puja On this day, nine small pots are installed and nine Shakti’s or Power of Maa Durga are invoked in them. All nine forms of Goddess Durga are worshipped on 8th Day of Navrati called Maha Ashtami Puja. Young unmarried girls, being treated and worshiped as Goddess Durga, this puja on Maha Ashtami is known as Kumari Puja.
Mahagauri is the eighth manifestation of Goddess Durga and amongst the Navadurgas. Mahagauri is worshipped on the eighth day of Navratri. According to Hindu mythology, the Goddess Shailputri at the age of sixteen was extremely beautiful and was blessed with fair complexion. Due to her extreme fair com¬plexion she was known as Goddess Mahagauri. Goddess Mahagauri is com¬pared with the conch, the moon and the white flower of Kunda. She adorns white clothes only and due to that She is also known as Shwetambardhara.
Goddess Mahagauri has the power to fulfill all the desires of her devotees. The one who worships the goddess gets relief from all the sufferings in life. Mahagauri has four arms. Her right arm is in the pose of allaying fear and right lower hand holds a trident in it. She holds a tambourine in her left up¬per arm and the lower one is in the form of a blessing.
Governing Planet – It is believed that the planet Rahu is governed by Goddess Maha Gauri.
